Ultrasound technicians or the sonographers are very highly trained professionals in the healthcare field. They generally have good understanding of the topics related to the pathology, anatomy, physiology and ultrasound physics. The field of diagnostic medical ultrasound technology is unique career as it requires the technicians to be visual and smart. These technicians are the medical photographers as they have to figure out the ways to obtain images that they need along with the patients being different and must know the way of presenting the focus of images. The salary of the ultrasound technicians will range between $50,000-$60,000 every year, but the wages will be low at the initial stages of work and the wages will increase depending on the specialization.
The ultrasound will generally create 2 dimensional images and with the 2nd dimension always represent the depth. The method is very different and it requires hand and eye coordination. The cameras used by the technicians will be different for each of the examination and they select various frequencies and the setting depending on the patients. - The technician must be very competitive. The programs related to diagnostic medical sonography are very competitive. Before applying for the course the technician must become a desirable candidate. Establishing a good grade point with an average of about 4.0 will make a good deal. In the case of certain programs, lowest accepted GPA is not lower than 3.8.
- Apply for the accredited programs. With the 2 year applied science course with the concentration in the field of diagnostic medical sonography, the students will not have the registry that is eligible for graduation. Applying for the accredited program will help the individual in attending the board examination upon the graduation.
- Complete the clinical and didactic training. The diagnostic medical sonography course include the classroom works like specific ultrasound course, physiology, anatomy and patient care. The technicians are placed in the hospitals with the registered sonographer. This will help in developing the hands on experience along with the scanning and patient care.
- The technician must attend the registry examination. Most of the technicians do not prefer writing the accredited examinations to get registered but the registered technician generally gets a large number of opportunities. Registered sonographers are given high payment in most of the hospitals.
